Jambo! Sisters and Brothers of the African diaspora.
We hope this letter finds you all in good spirit and health. Allow me to introduce myself and the 'La Nación de Yanga' (Yanga Nation) Organization. My name is D'Ray (Nyanga) Cook, I am a co-founder along side Velisa Woods. Together we have formed La Nación de Yanga.
Our mission is to return, reclaim and restore the nation that our ancestors, 'Los Yanquícos', built in the early 17th century. Los Yanquicos's amazing story is like no other.
Los Yanquicos and the "20 and odd Africans" that arrived in Jamestown Virginia in 1619 are direct relatives. 1619 marked the beginning of the horrific African slave trade in the British colonies; meanwhile to the south, Los Yanquicos were celebrating their one year anniversary of sovereignty and freedom in what is today Yanga, Veracruz Mexico.
We are the descendants of these two groups.
We cordially invite you to learn more about our story and join in with us as we return, reclaim and restore our ancestral nation.
Asante sana,
D'Ray Nyanga
Velisa Woods
